RELEASE THE POISON

YOUR HEART BEATING FASTER

NO ANTIDOTE  WILL SET YOU FREE

INJECT YOUR VENOM

In the sultry underworld of Montreal, SEXSOMNIA spins a web of intrigue with their latest track, a seductive ode to the Nigrum Viduam or “black widow.” This creature, notorious for its lethal kiss and the dark romance of its mating rituals, becomes a metaphor for a dangerous liaison, a fetishistic flirtation with the fatal. The song bearing this dangerous name weaves a hypnotic tale of venomous love, where the thrill of peril and the allure of the forbidden entwine in an ancient dance. With each pulsating beat and haunting lyric, SEXSOMNIA captures the essence of being ensnared in a toxic embrace, where the quest for liberation is as elusive as the intoxicating promise of love itself.

This subject is nothing new to SEXSOMNIA, who have already long ventured into the shadowy world of parasomnia. Their name refers to the hidden desires that stir in the night, more intense than related conditions like sleepwalking. This phenomenon blurs the lines between consciousness and unconsciousness, prompting a deep exploration of the self amidst a Freudian backdrop. With this outfit, Philip Faith (WESTERNDREAM, Rise of the Fallen, Hotel Noir) has crafted a unique musical endeavour. SEXSOMNIA melds electrobeats, analogue synths, ethereal soundscapes, and female vocals, distinctively featuring dual live bass guitars. Bassist Pat Gaudette (Unruled, Hexapheen, and NowFuture) and Michael Rien (Earth Chronicles, Special Ops) round out the band’s sound.

With Nigrum Vuduam, corrosive basses, pounding dance-floor beats, baritone guitar, melodious bass lines, and dark atmospheres channel The Cure, Giorgio Moroder, Propaganda, Trentemøller, Joy Division, Ladytron, V.A.C, and David Lynch her superb make-up and stylist skills for the video.

“Transcendent” is out today via Manic Depression Records, following their Digital EP “Dormant” last June.
